For some reason any automatic updates that i have downloaded will not install. When i click the friendly little icon and click install, its just comes up the all of them have failed. I can install them by going into softwaredistributon and install them that way but as there is 77 files to install it will take me a fair while. So any help would be great!

A simple try is right click My Computer then Properties then Automatic Updates.

Turn it OFF then turn it back ON.

I would manually install all the current updates first as that backlog might have an affect on resetting the service. Also check under Administrative Tools > Services that Automatic Update is on Automatic.
