    Flash drive window has gone.

I use two USB flash drives to store text files - Apacer Handy Steno HA202.
Normally when I'd plug them in a window would open to display files stored there but that hasn't been happenning in the last few days. The drives still work perfectly, and I can store data to them. Losing the window is an irritation all the same.
I might have changed a setting when I was trying to track down the bug that invaded my comp. But I have no idea where the setting was changed.

    Any suggestions?

    I'm running XP Home BTW.

What kind of window used to open?

When plugged in, if you go to My Computer, is the drive there? If you open it, can you see the files?

Yes, the window opens in My Computer, exactly as it used to. File details all there.

You've lost me. I don't see anything wrong. In your opening post, you said,
Normally when I'd plug them in a window would open to display files stored there but that hasn't been happenning in the last few days.
So, I ask again, what kind of window used to open that is no longer opening?

The above window is what used to appear when I plugged the drive into the computer. Also a button would appear on the taskbar with the message "Removable Disk (:F)".
I can bring these up when I go through My Computer. But they used to appear automatically as soon as the flashdrive was plugged in - that is what's changed, and I want to reinstate that automatic display.

Okay - now I understand what you are saying.

    Try this:
    • Insert flash drive into USB port
    • When the AutoPlay box appears, click Cancel
    • In My Computer, right-click on flash drive and select Properties, then AutoPlay tab
    • Perform the following steps for each item in the Content Type drop-down list:
      • Select the first Content Type drop-down list item
      • Click the Select an action to perform radio button
      • Click on Open folder to view files in Windows Explorer
      • Click Apply
      • Repeat with next item in content type drop-down list (remember to click apply)
    • Click OK to close the Properties
    • Use the Safely Remove Hardware feature to remove flash drive
    • Wait about 10 seconds and plug back in
The AutoPlay window should appear for a second, then Windows Explorer should open to show the flash drive files

Hmmm, well then I am afraid I don't know. I can only suggest a possible firewall issue, or a security setting preventing explorer from opening. Perhaps someone else reading has some ideas.
