My computer won't boot up :(

    Hi all,

I am currently using XP and when i switch my computer on it crashes when it says "windows xp loading" then i get a blue screen with white writting saying something like " a problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damagfe to your computer. if this is the first time you have seen this message restart your computer, if this appears again follow these steps. check to make sure any hardware or software is properly inserted. if continues diable or remove any newly installed hardware or software". I have restarted my computer and it does the same thing, and i havent installed anything new. Please help me.

    Many Thanks,
    Adam

Sorry Adam, but we are not mind readers here. Please note in your first post you said,
i get a blue screen with white writting saying something like...
    and now you say,
there is also an error code and its something with loads of 0's in it
Well, "somethings" don't help us. What is the exact error ("Stop") code? We need the first 10 characters and then the text at the end of all the other numbers and letters.

Did you recently add any hardware?

    Sorry, I have got the code now. ***stop: 0x000000ED (0x87363900, 0xc0000006, 0x00000000, 0x00000000.

    Thank you..... Adam

Since you still did not include the text at the end of the all the numbers, we still have to guess a bit.

But Stop ED typically comes from 2 errors. See Error on IDE Drive and UNMOUNTABLE Boot Volume.

Do you have an original Windows Installation CD? I suspect you will have to boot to the Windows CD to go into the Recovery Console and run chkdsk /r.
