Computer hangs at welcome screen and desktop

Hi this is my first time on this forum and I'm hoping someone can help me with my recent computer problem. I'm running windows xp media center edition on a dell inspiron e1505 and recently when i turn my computer on it was been hanging for about 10 seconds on the welcome screen and an additional 7 or 8 seconds when it is just showing my wall paper without the icons or the taskbar. After that time has passed windows loads normally. I've experienced random freezes and I once had a blue screen of death appear but I didnt think to write down the error code. If anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated.

See this post for some diagnostic ideas:

    http://www.d-a-l.com/help/showthread.php?t=50190

Also as a diagnostic tool go to start Run... msconfig | Startup

Uncheck all the entries here and see if it makes a difference. If so you can go back and recheck line by line till you find the cause.

When you reboot you will be told you are in diagnostic mode. Just check the box that says "don't show me this again".

Also run your virus and malware scans etc.

I unchecked all the entries and that didnt make a difference. Ive ran spybot, adaware, symantec antivirus, ccleaner, and regsupreme and that hasnt done anything. In event viewer I keep getting an error under system called W32Time if that helps. Thanks for the post though.

Hi I posted on here a few days ago about my computer hanging on the welcome screen and loading the wallpaper and hanging there for about 15 to 20 seconds before loading the taskbar and the icons. I recently received a windows blue screen of death with the following stop error codes: 0x0000007E and these in parentheses (0xC0000005, 0x00000000, 0xBACCB33C, 0xBACCB038). I dont know if this has anything to do with the problems ive been having but I recently went out of the country to a place where the voltage is 220 vs the american 110. The power where I was at was weak and fluctuated and apparently burned out my battery. Any help would be greatly appreciated because this is my school computer and school starts in a month! I have a Dell Inspiron e1505 running windows xp media center edition.

If you could post a full dump log (instructions HERE) it would help us help.

Scroll down this link to the following:

    http://www.aumha.org/a/stop.htm

    0x0000007E: SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED
(Click to consult the online MSDN article.)
A system thread generated an exception which the error handler did not catch. There are numerous individual causes for this problem, including hardware incompatibility, a faulty device driver or system service, or some software issues. Check Event Viewer (EventVwr.msc) for additional information.
There are some links there that might help.

    Also try running Check Disk:

Go to start Run... and type: cmd

    Then type: chkdsk /f

You will be told the volume is in use do you want to run chkdsk on next boot? Type: Y and reboot.
