No, im afraid that just gives a motherboard make (andnot pc model) which isnt as helpfull

Could you please download and run belarc advisor and find your make and model on there (near the top).

I'm sorry your problem is not yet resolved, hopefully it will be sorted soon

    System model:
    Compaq Presario 061 RF787AA-ABU SR2009UK GB640 0nF0411RE101ASTE300
    System Serial Number: CZX643F0SY
    Enclosure Type: Desktop

    Operating system:
Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2 (build 2600)

So far installing these drivers you've given me has allowed me to use the options>properties part of the sounds and audio decides>Volume bit. but still any sound that is picked up as being 'microphone' is still coming from my sound card.

ok, your computer is a Compaq, not Dell

The problem you face now is either incorrect driver (most likely) or a corrupt windows file

From the new information i now have, i believe you need this driver

    Installation Instructions

    1. Click the link above.
    2. At the File Download screen, click the Save button.
    3. At the Save As screen, save the file to your Desktop.
    4. If a message appears stating that the file already exists, click YES to
    overwrite file.
    5. Double-click the icon for the update downloaded to your desktop, and then
    click NEXT.
    6. Follow on-screen instructions.
    7. If prompted to restart the system upon completion of the update, click
YES and allow system to restart.
