I would like to use another explorer to replace Windows explorer.

My question is , if I use another aplication to do the job, what happens when I open any short cut icon im my desktop ??? am i still using windows explorer ???if so, can it be disabled ??

Well here's a new one - I've never heard of anyone asking this before! To be honest, I am surprised that you could even get different explorers for Windows. I would be inclined to think that any desktop shortcut to a drive or folder that you have previously created would still open in Windows Explorer. There is no way to remove Windows Explorer from your system - it is a fundamental part of Windows. The process name in Task Manager is Explorer.exe. As soon as you kill that off, it will automatically start up again. Explorer.exe not only manages Windows Explorer (and 'My Computer' I think) but also the desktop and Start Menu so, without Explorer.exe running, your PC would be pretty useless!

These are all alternative search and folder option programs.

As DJ points our explorer.exe is the foundation of the Windows GUI.

It cannot be turned off with out turning off Windows. Or if you turn it off it will turn off Windows.

These other programs can be used as alternative folder options and search options but they are an additional layer of software. Windows Explorer will continue to run underneath them: supporting them.

You are just adding some tweaks and twists that these other programs offer.

I was searching about this because I had a freezing problem caused by Windwos explorer, but in the meantime I think I've solved the problem.
