    STOP: 0x00000024

Hi, I was using my laptop this morning and downloaded an update for Windows XP Media Center and restarted the computer, I got the following message while trying to restart it:

    ************************************************** *******

A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

If this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Disable or uninstall any anti-virus, disk defragmentation or backup utilities. Check your hard drive configuration, and check for any updated drivers. Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer.

    Technical information:

    *** STOP: 0x00000024 (0x00190203, 0x867D3008, 0xC0000102, 0x00000000)

    ************************************************** *******

I've tried starting Windows in safe mode and using the last known good configuration but it won't work, what should I do? I don't know how to do any of the things the blue screen suggests because I can't get past it.

Thanks in advance for all your help,

    Diego

Try Safe Mode proper then choose System Restore.

If this does not work try Safe Mode with command prompt and enter chkdsk /r /f

This Stop message, also known as Stop 0x24, indicates that a problem occurred within Ntfs.sys (the driver file that allows the system to read and write to NTFS drives).
