Re: Need some help with restoring XP
Did you try to install the USB 2.0 Driver from eMachine?
-
When you double click the "Other Device" what are the details given?
-
I tried downloading the usb 2.0 from emachine website. I also, inserted both 1 and cd 2 when it was asking to look in the D: drive and nothing.
when I click on other devices it telling me "usb controller" then when I double click on that it reads this:
Device Type Other device
Manufacture Unknown
Location PCI Bus 0, device 29 function 0
The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)
To reinstall the drivers for this device, click Reinstall Driver.
Is this usb controller on the MB? If so, should the chipset drivers I found on the website work?
-
That is an Intel bus controller and yes it should be in the chipset drivers.
Did you not install these drivers? If not you should.
-
I when click on dl the drivers for the usb 2.0 from the emachine website here is what what files are inside the folder
hccoin.dll
usb2x security catalog
usb2x ini
usbehci
Then when I point to that folder to look get the driver it don't exact it but, then I get a message say "the hardware wasn't install because it can't find the wizard can't find the necessary software"
-
Cool were are posting right after each other bro. Yes, I download the chipset drivers twice and it isn't fixing. Hopefully we can resovle this but, if not, what kind of problem will this cause her down the road?
-
None if none are apparent.
This computer I'm using right now has always had 2 "Other Device" listings indicating PCI bus controllers. I ran all the drivers and contacted both the motherboard manufacturer and Intel and no one had a clue.
Other than the listing in the Device Manager I never would know about this. It causes no problems. Just a mystery.
So if there is no problem on the machine there should be no reason to fix what isn't broken.
Are there any PCI cards installed? If so do they work?
-
That I am not sure I would have to take the cover off to find out. I will let you know and thanks for all the help
-
Now that you mentioned to check and see if any card are plugged into any PCI slots and yes, there was a dial-up Modem that I didn't get drivers for. That is 99.9% the reason why there is a yellow ? for "other device." I talked to her (own of the cpu) and she said, "don't worry about the dial-up modem because I use the ethernet card because I have DSL. So, I don't think it will cause problems? Will it?
-
It should not be a problem. That computer has built-in Ethernet meaning it is on the motherboard itself.
Again if she is having no problems then I'd just ignore the "Other Devices".
