    number for windows installation...?

Hi, it would be great if anyone could give me a suggestion.

My PC shutdowns as soon as Windows starts up. I figured the best way to fix it would be to check my registry for problems.

But according to microsoft support, to get into the recovery console, I have to enter "the number for the appropriate Windows installation". Whats the number?

Does anybody know what this means? Please help

After you boot the XP CD and choose the first R you will see a choice of installed Operating Systems and you just choose the appropriate one.

Once in the Recovery Console you can try FIXBOOT and or FIXMBR

Have you tried entering Safe Mode options instead?

Press F8 before Windows tries to start. Choose "Last known good configuration" and or "Safe Mode" itself.

Thanks jephree - you're a champ! I used the "Last known good configuration" and everything seems to be ok now. Microsoft told me it was a problem with a device driver.... but I have no clue what that means....

    Thanks heaps!!!
