We have similar systems. First off has this system ever worked these games?
Do you have your SLi enabled? Are you certain the RAM is compatible with the board?
I would run Core Temp and monitor it while running Prime95
This should resolve any questions as to heat problems.

hi,thanks for responding. i have not been able to get any games to run either in vista or xp on this system.i was convinced it was an os problem but im not so sure now.even 3d mark 06 doesnt work,as soon as i click on the test it crashes??? i will try core temp and prime95 and report back. thanks

You can also get Everest Home Edition free in the Utility section of Old Versions: http://oldversion.com/
Everest should show the GPU temps. Stock cooled 8800's run @ 60c which is very warm but that is the norm.
I have put both mine on a liquid loop which brings them down to @ 42c.
This however should not be a crash point unless they are say over 70c.
I would still suspect CPU heat.
Do you have any interest in liquid cooling?
--------------
Also what PSU are you using? Is it SLi and Core2 Extreme approved? Do you have two dedicated lines to each 8800? No splitters?
...

psu is an atrix 720 watt switching power supply whatever that means?? came with the system(which incidentally was advertised as vista ready)system was prebuilt so i would assume that temps and compatability etc had been tested beforehand?? as far as i can see they are dedicated lines to both cards. sorry im a bit of a novice when it comes to pcs!
not sure if this is relevant but i had a BSOD when i booted up today but it flashed up so quick i didnt have time to read it but the error report contained the following:
BCCode : 4e BCP1 : 0000000000000002
BCP2 : 00000000000B5102
BCP3 : 000000000003FFFF
BCP4 : 000000000008600
Os Ver : 5_2_3790
SP : 2-0 Product 256_1
makes no sense to me ??????
thanks for replying

when running prime 95 i recieved the following error:
FATAL ERROR: Rounding was 0.5, expected less than 0.4
Hardware failure detected, consult stress.txt file.

i also ran memtest and it found 13 errors after only 5 minutes.could be dodgy memory? it hasnt been overclocked as far as i know as i wouldnt really know what to do anyway!
