Was it working previously?
Any new hardware?
What is the make and model of the computer?
Can you enter the BIOS Setup?

Hi
After posting yesterday about 10mins later the computer started up from the frozen screen as I had left it on, from then on it was o.k I turned it off for a hour or so then it came back on no problem now this morning I switched it on about 20mins ago and the same thing it is frozen on the same screen again. I have not added any new hardware that I'm aware of though the kids are on it all the time!!
How do I post a bios set up???
It's a TIME computer,AMD Athlon 64 processor 3000+
Thanks

The BIOS is what runs before Windows to start the computer.
Most BIOS Setups can be entered by pressing the Delete key after power on or when you see a logo screen for the computer.
I am assuming the auto-detecting is in the BIOS. Looking for a boot device.
One thing to do if you get back into Windows is ID your hard drive and then run the manufacturers diagnostic on it. It will be listed in the Device Manager.
Right click My Computer then click Manage then Device Manager. Then click the + next to Disk drives. What is listed?

Hi again
Computouter came on today after about 15 mins switching it on and off quickly. I got into the device manager and clicked what you said and this is what it says
IN-WIN CF card usb device
IN-WIN MS " " "
IN-WIN SD " " "
IN-WIN SM " " "
WDC WD1200BB-00DWAD.
After pressing delate on the first screen I get a blue screen headed AMIBIOS NEW SETUP UTILITY with lots of choices on it one of which is load BIOS setup defaults??? is this the screen you are meaning when you say BIOS? if so what should I do now?
Thanks again I just wish I knew more about all this technical stuff
Sally.

Yes that is the BIOS Setup menu.
First off run the diagnostic on the hard drive. WDC is Western Digital.
If you have a floppy drive this is the page (with download and instructions) you want:
