    systemroot\system32\config\software

I have a major problem with my pc when I switch it on the squeen is blue and the following message appears: systemroot\system32\config\software

I've had a look at the Microsoft support site on this and their solution for it says don't do it if you have an OEM installation, which sadly my machine does.

Does anyone know of a solution for this for someone with an OEM Windows XP system on their machine.

    Cheers

    Jane

As microsoft say you cannot edit/replace the hives, i wouldnt try so....

Do you have an XP disk that came with your computer?
If not, can you get hold of one?

If yes to any of the above:
    Try a repair install
    Failing that, a clean install

Thanks for that Madmikejt12, I'm trying to get one.

I had a look on Ebay do you know if this disk on here would work or do I need some authentication number: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SPARES-REPAIR-...QQcmdZViewItem

if you currently have XP Pro then yes, because you just use your product key (found on a sticker on your machine)

if you have XP home/media centre edition, then this is not what you need as you do not have the correct code for it

also note, there is 4 days left on that auction.... the price is bound to go up, you are probably better off looking at the ones with closer finishing times as they will finish at around the same price anyway (in most cases).
