secondary xp install on slave drive

secondary xp install on slave drive
Hi
This is probably straight forward but I could use a walkthrough help.
After becoming hugely infected I decided that formatting the drive and a clean install of xp was the best option.
As I was using an 80GB hard drive I also decided to upgrade and had a new 320 GB hard rive installed as a slave to the exisiting. The plan is to install xp pro to the new hard drive, ensure it is fully functioning, transfer some files from the old hard drive before wiping it and using it as a copy/back up drive.
My exisiting drive has a primary partiton C and three further partitions D, E and F. my CD and DVD drives are G and H so the new drive is logically identified as i.
When I put the xp disc in to install, it doesn't seem to allow me to select drive i to install too. Also, although I have formatted the new drive to NTFS I have not partitoned it yet..............does that matter??
Once xp is safely installed on the new drive I will transfer some picture files before wiping the old drive and resetting it as the slave.
Any help from those who know would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Fent

I believe your new drive would get the letter G because the CD/DVD drives get pushed forward up a letter if you install another hard drive.
Hard Drive: G
CD drive: H
DVD drive: I

Hi
No system automatically allocated the new drive letter i when I installed it.

Hi
XP will install on whichever HDD you make Master. Make the drive you need to install on as Master and then install it. After installation you can change the jumpers around back again if you will and all will work correctly.
If you install it while it's in Slave position, then the drive will get a secondary lettering, like H in your case, forever, which you don't want believe me.
