rundll32.exe run at 100% CPU usage

i have a friend that have this problem

Everytime i open Rundll32.Exe the CPU usage reahces 100% and it forces the computer to either restart or act really slow and im wondering if its a virus or trojan or spyware.

the rundll32.exe will open when i open the "set program access and default" and it should close if i close the "set program access and default" but it still on can it be something wrong with his pc.

ok, have you tried running an antivirus/spyware program?

also, post a hijack this log in the Spyware, Adware, Viruses and HijackThis Logs section with a brief description of the problem. This is AFTER you have ran the anti-virus and spyware removal (I presume your friend has these?? if not, if the computer is always slow or doesnt have the internet, you can download the programs and copy the setup files to CD/memory card/usb flash drive etc)

I had that rundll problem too a while ago; go into run and type msconfig then go to the 'startup' tag and uncheck the 'dumprep 0 -k' program on the list which seemed to come from a hard-drive check that went wrong. It worked for me anyway...

im not sure about dumprep 0 -k,
but dumprep 0 -[letter] are used with memory dumps... they are not essential

    The letters are as follows:
Y - Normally leave to run at start-up
N - Not required - typically infrequently used tasks that can be started manually if necessary
    U - User's choice - depends whether a user deems it necessary
X - Definitely not required - typically viruses, spyware, adware and resource hogs
    ? - Unknown

"dumprep 0 -" are not always in the startup list, all it is is some of microsoft's dubugging information, usualy appears after you have had a system crash
