pc has stopped recognising my mobile

Hope this should'nt be in the phone section.
I regularly connect my mobile to my pc to swap photos/tone etc and all has worked well. Now however i get the message "windows does not recognise this USB device. There was no driver cd with the phone it just recognised it first time and installed it. I would like to maybe try re-installing but dont know how.Any advise most welcome. PS the phone is otherwise working fine.
    THANKS

Plug your phone in, click start>rt. click on my computer> click properties> go to "hardware"> click device manager > expand the "Universal Serial Bus Controlers"

Look for any yellow ! or ?, right click this device, click properties>update driver

If that doesnt work, what is the make and model of your phone?

and do all your other USB devices work?

Very many thanks for your swift reply.
I have done as you said but in the USB list it shows as unknown device but no marks or colours. I tried updating driver but it failed to find anything.
My phone is a Sony Ericsson K310i. All other USB devices are working well.
    Many Thanks

    Again many thanks.
Sorry to trouble you again but i have downloaded the said file and extracted them to a desktop folder but none of the icons seem to allow for installation.
Am i doing something wrong ?
    Thanks again.

Plug your phone in, click start>rt. click on my computer> click properties> go to "hardware"> click device manager > expand the "Universal Serial Bus Controlers"

find your phone (Unknown device) and rt. click on it... click properties>driver click update driver

chose the option "yes this time only" it should then search for a driver on the internet, if it doesnt, another screen will appear, chose the bottom option (saya advanced at the bottom) click next, browse for the folder on your desktop (not the .zip one) and click ok then click Next

    Hope this helps
