Reboot during startup!
A repost - originally posted in the Win2K section in error!
---------------------------------------------------------------
Hi:
Previously, my computer would never automatically power-down. It's now developed an additional, much more serious problem. On startup, it gets almost to the end of the boot-up sequence (the Windows logo is displayed for about 10-20 seconds) and then reboots!
However, it will boot-up just fine in Safe mode ! Then, when I shut-down in Safe mode, it will automatically power-down.
I wondered if the power-off problem was somehow a clue to the cause of the new, rebooting problem?
Urgent help sought, PLEASE!
Thanks in advance.

If it works OK in Safe Mode then the suspect is some third party driver or hardware that is not loaded in Safe Mode.
One thing you can do in Safe Mode is schedule a Check Disk:
Go to start/run cmd
Then type chkdsk /f
You will be told the volume is in use do you want to run chkdsk on next boot?
Type Y and then reboot.

I've solved the problem, so wanted to share it. BTW, Chkdsk /f ran without any errors reported.
The problem turned out to be Norton GoBack! I thought I'd try disabling it on boot up (you're given an opportunity to invoke/select GoBack options). I disabled it. Machine works just fine now! Even powers off automatically on Shut down...
Nevertheless, thanks for the advice.

Thanks for the update and the solution.
Norton software is very often problematic and I for one (among many) advise not using any of their software.
