computer keeps restarting?.

Re: computer keeps restarting?.
Cheers Jephree,
I posted over in the spyware section and Have been told its likely a hardware problem, so i guess my computer is showing its age and slowly dying. Luckily its nearly tax time so i should have enough money to get a new computer soon.
Thanks to everyone who has helped me.

The fact that it runs in Safe Mode still offers hope that you can find the problem.
Safe Mode just loads the most necessary drivers for Windows to boot.
From this we can assume that some third party driver and or its' respective hardware is failing.
Where you go from here depends on how much time you want to put into this.
I would go back inside and start removing components in a trial and error approach.
Another approach would be to update all your drivers. This might be difficult as that computer is so old and Tang is not listing it anymore.
You could try our hardware scan and see what it does and or does not show:

Here is a copy of the hardware scan, I hope i have posted it in the right place?.

That motherboard is 7 years old but the BIOS is 10 years old. A bit strange.
See what this scan from MSI (your motherboard manufacturer) reports:
http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=downloadindex
-
Hello again,
I tried to do that scan, but it just kept doing the "now loading" i left it on for 35 mins and still was doing it and nothing else.
I made sure i turned off everything that was running including my avg antivirus, is it suppose to take this long?
Also my computer has restarted twice in the last hour
I so dont know alot about computers and when you say its strange that the motherboard is 7 yo and the BIOS is 10, i dont really understand.
Is the motherboard the tower(in my case its a flat one) and the BIOS the memory stuff that computers need?.
-
I ran the manual version and came up with this:
http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?f...170&cat3_no=84
The motherboard is the main board where all the other stuff is plugged into.
The BIOS is the Basic IN OUT System which is the software that starts the computer before any hard drive or Operating System is started.
The BIOS is the heart of the motherboard.
Your board was manufactured in 2000 and the DAL scan showed your BIOS as 1997. Could just be a bug in the scan. MSI shows a BIOS in 2000 as well as 2001.
http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?f...=1&prod_no=351
The chipset drivers have been revised to the latest 2007:
http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?f...=1&prod_no=351
The chipset drivers deal with the communication between various chips on the motherboard and subsequently your operating system.
This might be a good place to start. See if you can load the VIA Chipset 4in1 Drivers.

I did load the VIA Chipset 4in1 Drivers. then i extracted the files and ran the setup.exe and it installed it then asked if i want to restart computer to use this, so i did. Now what do i do?
thanks heaps for your help!

See if it makes any difference. See if the same problems occur.
We are in trial and error mode. We can just try and err.
If the issues remain the same I would try the BIOS update.
This is a more complicated process so please know what you are doing prior to doing it but it is also quite simple. We are here to help.
Let us know if the 4in1 drivers make any difference.
-
Okey dokey, i will let you know if it still resarts itself.
Thanks heaps and heaps.
This forum is so great

HELLO!
sorry i was out for the long weekend!
wow, still working on that problem!
glad jephree's helping out by fixing this issue... i would simply, backup n format the OS, (quick solution
)
BTW, if you do plan to format and re-install the OS, I would also suggest to download Driver Magician, and backup the necessary Drivers (audio, VGA, LAN, e.t.c)
CLICK HERE to download Driver Magician!
good luck!!
