    Black screen with commands.

Hi, couldn't find any topics related to my problem: I just put in a new monitor and downloaded Ad-aware and restarted my computer, every time I reboot it a black screen appears with commands. I tried every command and I am returned to the same black screen with commands. If anyone can help, I would greatly appreciate it.

    What exactly are these commands?

Are you speaking of Safe Mode options?

    Commands are:

    Safe Mode
    Safe Mode with Networking
    Safe Mode with Command Prompt

    Last Known Good Configuration

    Start Windows Normally

Did you try Safe Mode then System Restore?

If yes and you got rebooted you will need your XP CD?

Is your CD a retail Microsoft CD or an OEM Recovery CD?

If the latter what is the make and model of the computer?

My computer is refurbished, bought it at a computer outlet, and it didn't come with a recovery CD. I assume that's really bad.

If you cannot get past or into Safe Mode then you will need a boot disk.

This would be the XP CD.

You could try using the Recovery Console via the 6 floppy setup disks from Microsoft as seen here:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310994

From here there are 3 commands you can try:

    FIXBOOT

    FIXMBR

    BOOTCFG

If none of these work you will need a full XP CD to run a Repair Installation.
