Question Download error: unkown publisher/not a valid win 32 application

I am unable to download any kind of software or programs onto my computer. Attempts to download or run files from current location, brings up the error message " IE Security Warning name: hwscan.exe, Unknown Publisher". If I continue and the download completes , or I open/run the file from current location, attempts to open/install the program it, a new windows error message " C:\Documents and Settings\Temp internet files\" this is not a valid win 32 application and the file will not open. This same type of error occurs when I attempt to save a file on my hard drive into a floppy disk. I am denied access to that action. I attemted to download and use your "computer scan program" to detect the problem, but came up with the same results. Please say this can be corrected without reformatting the hard drive and reinstalling Windows XP. Any help would be appreciated. ( I can the send detailed computer info if needed) Thank you.

Is this a new problem? If so try a System Restore to a point prior to the problem. start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore

If that doesn't work I would suggest first off trying to get a HijackThis log and post over in that section of our forum.

If the program will not download then download it on another computer and transfer to floppy then run from the floppy.

Please read THIS and after completing the steps outlined post a HijackThis log over in that section along with a brief description of your problem.

Do not post HijackThis logs in this section please.

I did go back to a restore point, but this has not corrected the problem. The IE Security Warnings of " Unknown Publisher ", " Publisher Cannot be Verified ", and " This is not a Valid Win 32 Application " appears every time I try to download a file, even when it is a file at the Microsoft Update Website.

See if you can get a HijackThis log.

Can someone tell me where I can locate this " HijackThis log ? "
Is this something that is already installed on my computer? or something that will need to be donwloaded ( which I am unable to do at this time. ) If I can locate it, I will attempt this process. Thanks for responding.
