    Two hard drives

    Hello and Help please
I had a problem with booting which I may have solved by reinstalling windows on my second hard drive, the original installation was on drive"C".
now its on drive "D", I did this as I believe if I had reinstalled over the original windows I would have lost "My Documents folder".which has lots of stuff I don't want to lose.
Now the problem is that everything is still there but all the programs are linked to "c" and don't work.Is there an easy way of transferring the programs to "D" without having to reinstall them as I have lost some of the installation cds.
Another problem is where are my emails? I have a brand new outlook express folder but its obviously empty, can the original emails be transferred to the new folder?
Would it be easier to copy to cd the files I need to keep and reinstall windows to "C".If so would the programs and drivers then work?
Thanks for reading this. I hope you can help

install xp on to your c drive then you should be able to access that drive then you can simply click on to the other drive for access to that

    hope this helps

    Thanks for your reply.
I reinstalled xp on drive C and the PC now boots ok but although the programs are still on drive D I can't open them, presumeably because they are not linked to xp on C. Is there a way round this? Also will my old emails still be accessable if so where are they?
I think the original problem about booting may be caused by my audio drivers, my sound card uses Cmedia, butwhen I installed my webcam it came with its own driver and thinking back my problems started then, I had to use "start at the last configuration that worked" when booting. I reinstalled the webcam and drivers after reinstalling xp on c yesterday and ,yes went back to square 1. I've uninstalled the webcam and boot up is now ok, but I havn't got a webcam!!! is there a way round this.
Sorry for asking all these questions, any help would be much appreciated .
    Thanks

you should be able to access your programs ok on the other drive as long as the hdd is ok you could try using the serch option in xp and look for it in the other hdd plug in your webcam but dont install any drivers then go to the windows update and see if there are any there by using the custom button

please let me knoww how you get on

Outlook Express folders carry an extension of .dbx

If you can still find the old version of OE there are some programs that may help extract them such as seen in this search:

    http://www.google.com/search?sourcei...express+emails

Also full fledged "Programs" will not run off your old drive. They need to be reinstalled as the Registry entries need to be reinstalled on C:.

Data can be retrieved but you cannot "Run" these programs without reinstalling them.

    Thanks Spud and Jephree.
I can find the programs but as you say they won't run.Is there any way of reinstalling them, is there a "global " installation utility?
re webcam --by windows update do you mean from microsoft website or via device driver on PC? Either way I've not had any success Is it possible that the driver and/or software for the webcam is causing the problem?
Thanks for the outlook express info, trying to make time to follow this up!!
    Thanks again.
