No-- and the BIOS appeared uncorrupted--- I took it by the Geek squad and they think it's the hard drive===now I need instructions on how to replace the one in the PC----I bought a Hitachi 60 GB--B

No-- my model appears to be an Omnibook 6000-- and that'd not on the list.

Thanks for the tips and site locations--that was helpful-- at least to let me know this problem is probably beyond me to dink with=== Will installation of a new hardrive result in the loss of the Windows XP operating system and the other applications that were included in the system when I got it? --- I presume they were imbedded in the hard drive i'm having headaches with so would have to either be salvaged from the old hard drive or reinstalled altogether?

    Thanks

If the original hard drive were still operable you might be able to clone it via a desktop computer with the proper adapters.

Short of that a new hard drive would require a new installation of XP and drivers.

HP usually sells these CD's if they did not provide you with them at purchase of the computer.

I haven't a clue what computer angel dropped in, but I'd brought my HP to work hoping to have one of our Computer people check it out, and the thing booted up perfectly like nothing was wrong---no error messages, no nothing, other than the AVG virus detector started scanning as usual and detected 3 "virus found hosts"--e.g. vir_trojan_pws_banker_4, vir_Win32_HLLM_Beagl, and vir_Win32_hllm_mydoom," I don't suppose those were even related to my problem---Anyway, thanks for the support-=--I'll be back, I'm sure---
