I have tried several times to re-install windows onto my laptop, but i get "error loading ieakui.dll", click OK then it continues and stops at 9 mins. The info pages are changing and the installing activity bar on the bottom right is still going.
I have reformatted the harddrive but still getting the same problem. Can anybody help?

are you starting with clean hard drive?

If you boot from the XP CD and delete all the partitions there. Then,
recreate them from XP's setup before continuing to install.

what was the reason you needed to reinstall windows?

Hi, The reason for reinstalling was that the laptop kept crashing and do not have the recovery disc.
I am booting from XP CD and redid the partitions but still comes up with "error loading ieakui.dll" then continues, gets to 9 mins and stops.
I did try to load Linux last night and that just stopped as well.

I dont think there was any particular reason, it just kept slowing down, stopped responding and then just crashed. I did the usual, clean out all the junk etc, defrag and cleaned up the registry, reinstalled IE but that only made a slight improvement. It has been suggested that it could be the harddrive.
I would guess that the laptop is around 6 yrs old.

that's what I got when I googled, pointing to hard drive failure
