hi, can anyone help me, i am changing my isp soon to Sky +. Instructions say to disable or close all virus and firewall protection, when installing routers and modem for Sky. Don't know how to do this.

    cheers

    Hi and welcome to D-A-L

it's not very good advice turning off your anti virus and firewall any time you're connected to the net you're vulnerable to nasties.

what firewall and anti virus are you running?

Thank you for your promp reply. I have one click maintainanc, Error Nuker, eTrust Internet Security Suite, Spamfighter, Registry Mechanic, Window's Defender, Error Nuker, Active Security Monitor.

Are you saying it's safe not to disable these programmes, when installing new isp.

    thank you for your help.

I will be using usb cable to connect the modem, and the internet will come through my phone line.

    Hi Kathleen

There is no need whatso ever to disable the firewall or Antivirus
Whenever I have installed any ISP to a computer I just use the CD for the new ISP and follow the onscreen instructions and I have not had any problems.

you'd be better if you can connect using the ethernet socket on your PC.
