    Question Bsod

Hi I am new to this, so please excuse me if I make any errors.

I have received an error message with the following:

    Kernal_Data_inpage-error

    Stop 0x0000007a(0xc07c26b8,0xc000006e,0xf84d7384,0x0f2c 7860)

    atapi.sys-address f84d7384 base at f84ca000 date stamp 41107b4d.

Normally just before this message appears ther is a sort of banking noise from the pc which I assume must be the disk.

Hope someone out there can help

That is an error on your DVD/CD drive controller: ATAPI.SYS

Also the 0x07a is a Page File error.

Were you running a backup to a CD or what were you doing?

Did this only happen once or does it recur?

I wasn't doing anything, the machine had just started up, Mcafee had just started doing a virus scan when the machine froze.

This has happened before and is becoming more and more frequent

Is there some sort of diagnostic you can run on this controller?

    First off run check disk.

    Go to start Run... cmd

    Then type: chkdsk /f

You will be told the volume is in use do you want to run on next boot?

    Type Y and reboot.

If that does not help run your hard drive manufacturers diagnostic which you can download from their web site.

If you do not know the manufacturer look in the Device manager under Disk drives

Device Manager = right click My Computer then click Manage then Device Manager

    Hi,

    chkdsk performed ok

Seatools diagnostics run on hard disk which came back with a pass.

    any more ideas?

Any yellow ! in the Device Manager?

Is everything listed OK under IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers?

Where is your Page File and what is it set to?

To see this right click My Computer then click Properties

    Advanced > Performance > Settings > Advanced > Virtual Memory > Change
