Hi guys...
Windows XP
Please help, I'm triying to get rid of a reference to software, in this case Apache...![]()
... My problem is im trying to install apache again and it wont install because of port conflict.. says port is already in use... (This port was used by my previous Apache installation...)![]()
So what I did was this...![]()
>> I uninstalled Apache through windows uninstaller...
>> Deleted the Apache folder that was not removed by uninstall
>> Rebooted to find Apache still referenced in >Contr~1>Adm~1>Serrvices
>> I Ran Registry cleaner .. JV16 Powertools... Hoping that this would solve the problem
>>I have finecomed my sistem for references to Apache... There is nothing..
.. except in <Services> ... how do i remove this reference...?![]()
.. Where is services finding this if I uninstalled everything and ran registry cleaner...![]()
See if this helps. More info in the link that follows the quote.
http://www.ss64.com/ntsyntax/services.htmlEnable or Disable Ports
Many services and applications rely on the use of a specific PORT - to determine if a particular port is enabled for use, review the list of Service names and port numbers held in the "services" file ('windows\system32\drivers\etc\services')
Installing a good firewall is the easiest way to manage this.
Hi, Ok.. so I found the culprit...
...after having a good look at the system I installed Wamp witch has a cute tool that tests your port and tells U whats using the port...
... To My suprise it wasnt a previos apache installation which was blocking the port... turned out to be IIS.
> So I uninstalled IIS and my Apache installation started working immediatly..![]()
> I reinstalled IIS, after starting apache , casue i need it for other applications...
> installation seemed to go smooth... But..![]()
> after rebooting my system... IIS has stolen this port again and apache wont start....![]()
so my question is..
> Is their a way to change the port IIS is using, and if so, to which port do I change it ???
Alas I have found a solution...
.... If you ever have this problem...
... open the IIS snap in tool
... at the top-most server selct properties
... in the portnumber change it to port 81.. and walla
