    Device Manager - Device Missing

I have been trying to connect my mp3 player to my new computer through both Creative Media Source and Windows Media Player - neither program can detect the device. Unfortunately I no longer have the installation disc that came with the player, so I have downloaded the program and drivers (creative) from the website - managed to download all but pc still doesn't detect.
the Creative site suggested XP users have minimum of Version 10 of Windows Media Player - installed that - still not working.
Have confirmed I have the latest Windows XP Service Pack.
Have gone to microsoft website and downloaded updates - still nothing. Have just gone into Device Manager in Control Panel, and looked for Windows Portable Devices folder which where the device is supposed to be according to Creative site. There is no folder called Windows Portable Devices, I can only see the player in the Universal Serial Bus Controllers folder.

    I am out of ideas.

    Anybody?

    thanks, )

    Dee

Thanks for the reply. Have managed to get the computer to recognise the device. Can use it with Creative Media Player but not with the latest version of Windows Media Player.

    Hi Dee2

Glad to see you have had some success.

Can I ask how you got XP to recognize the player? I am having the same problem.

    Regards
