Exclamation Computer TURNS OFF when running spyware doctor or VLC

Okay for starters i am running on WindowsXP SP2.. i have 1gram 280G. Recently my computer has been turning off randomly wheneva i run Spyware doctor (full scan) or i try to play a media file on VLC. I tried to play different media file types to see if it was that specific avi, but unfortunately that wasnt the issue. The computer runs fine and it does not turn off when i use it for other purposes (e.g AOL, i.e , downloading on Utorrent..e..t..c.). The computer specifically turns off when running those 2 programs. I originally thought it was a hardware problem since i would not get a blue screen niether would it randomly restart and I have ran out of options on what to do, on my part. Has anyone gone threw similar issues? Can anyone help me resolve this problem, it would be greatly appreciated if anyone could help me.

One of the reasons of shut downs are caused by thermal overload, or the system safety circuit shuts down the computer. It also could be a faulty or underpowered power supply. Some of the programs such as full scans use a lot of resources and therefore increases system temperature. Verify there is adequate vent and nothing is blocking ventilation. Open the case and blow any dirt/dust off of the inside (do not touch components). Temporary remove any power hungry add-ons that you might have added recently (such as add-on video card). Also disconnect any USB device that is not powered externally. It the problems goes away after reducing the load, then there is a good chance it is thermal/power supply related. If problem persists, then ask the software guys on this site and they will have a good handle on it.

I have a digital readout on my computer that tells me how hot the computer is inside its casing. Nevertheless its very computer is very clean inside i had dusted it off with one of those compress air cans a while back ( way before this issue started) so i highly doubt its because its overheating. As for ad-ons, ive never added anything to the computer since i got it so im assuming i shouldnt disconnect anything. So umm, how can i get in contact with a software guy on this site ? i seriously need some help.

By the way thanks for the help joeofeg

So how hot is it when you run a scan that kills it?

Software errors usually leave a trail. Error messages or BSOD's.

Here are some ways to look for them: http://www.d-a-l.com/help/showthread.php?t=50190

If the computer is literally turning itself off: ON/OFF = No power = some hardware problem.

What is the make and model of the computer? Most manufacturers have diagnostic tools.

Well, Jephree seems to be here 24 hours a day, 8 days a week. I am pretty sure he can help. Also, if you think your power supply is ok, and your problem is software related then start from here:

I bought and customized a computer from Cyberpower so its not really a named brand P.C. Ive had it roughly for about 3 years, give or take. I think its feasable to say its a hardware problem because it does turn itself off. COMPLETELY. Here are the specs on my p.c.

See if that scan will run in Safe Mode.

Well i ran the scan on safe mode and ironically enough it did not turn off. It only found 8 low risk advertising infections and i removed it. So what could be the cause of it shutting off by itself when its running normal and not when its running on safe mode. This is so weird. Any theorys', solutions, ideas?

Well i downloaded Kaspersky and ran a Full scan on my computer just to test out if the cause of the problem is a virus but once again my computer turned off completely. I Went on safe mode and tried it again and after the scan reached the 23% mark it turned off completely. I hope this added information / test would help you help me.. =/
