    hang ups

    Hi guys! Its me,im back!
As I said in my last post, XP has been reloaded and all was going ok..But...
Im now getting quite a few program hangups, even clicking the start button takes ages to come up. Im also having a prob with my keyboard, its a Logitech internet navigator. Ive lost the pound sign function( its now the hash sign) and some of the other keys are switched. Ive deleted and reloaded the supplied softwear disc a few times but its still the same.
    Any ideas???
    Regards.

    Go to control panel.
    region & languages.
Make sure all languages are set to english uk.

It may be needed to go to control panel/ keyboard to change that to english UK as its default is English USA.

    Hope this helps.

If hash replaces Pound, and " replaces @

Your keyboard must still be set to english USA.

Or, it could be a different layout keyboard

about the speed, how much RAM do you have installed, what processor?

Did you do a clean install of XP?

Was this a problem STRAIGHT after you re-loaded XP?

    ££££!! Thats better!!
    Right that ones sorted,thanx.
As regards to my system its an AMD Athlon XP 1900+ 1.6 gig with 240 meg of ram. As regards to the reinstall,it was a clean install, but I could'nt slipstream sp2 so downloaded that afterwards. It all ran perfectly for a few days then started getting slower. I even ran defrag after about 5 days( that aint right!!)
And im running less programs on it than before.
Hope this nakes some sort of sense.
    Ta.

what memory does your computer take? (e.g PC 133 or DDR 2400)
how many slots are there and how many are used up? (you can find this out by downloading and running belarc advisor)

    Hi Mike,
Thanks for the offer mate, Im not sure what im going to do with the computer yet,I might just bin it and start again. Anyway my new problem is the computer keeps on shutting down after a period of inactivity. Power options are set to always on. Event viewer log is showing a double error. w32 Time and warning.dhcp? When i then power up i get the resuming windows screen. Also when this happens it knocks my lan connection out,so I have to use the 'diagnose this problem' link on IE.
    Any ideas??

Try disabling the 'internet time Sync.'

Double Click your clock in the system tray > Internet Time > uncheck Automatically Synchronize with ....

if that doesnt work, try a repair install of XP
