Problem installing Windows XP
I was partitioning my hard drive with partition magic, during the partitioning process my computer crashed. When I went to restart my computer the COMPAQ screen loaded but after that nothing happened. I tried reinstalling windows; however, it saying "Retrieving your system information blah blah" and then goes to a black screen and does nothing.
I got tired of messing with it so I decided to try Linux. Linux installed fine and I am now using Linux. Only problem is, I just got a part time job offer creating landscape designs, and the program is for windows.
Does anyone have any idea what is going on?
Thank you

I would guess that Partition Magic (aka Tragic) removed the recovery partition for Compaq.
What is the exact Compaq model & #? They do have a pretty good support site:

It's a Compaq Presario 7000.. I wasn't using a recovery CD or anything.. I used a Windows XP installation CD.. This computer came with Windows ME.
Thanks for the fast reply,

Are you booting the XP CD and the BIOS is set to boot the CD prior to the HDD?
-
Yes, I set it to boot cd first.

THIS is what should happen when you boot the XP CD.
If it does not happen I'd suggest running GParted on the drive or partition in question and format to NTFS.
Here is a good GParted guide.
Then try booting the XP CD again.

Thank you.
I will try GParted tonight and let you know how it goes.
Thanks,
