    XP setup

Hi, i am trying to do a clean xp install, it finished copying files restarted the computer and continued with the setup, the thing is, it stops on "Installing windows" and it says 39 minutes remaining... this is my XP home SP1 disk

I tried booting from my XP home SP2 slipdisk but after it had gone through the loading files process, I got a BSOD error code: 0x0000008E

The origional problem was- The computer would get to the XP bootscreen and stay on that for ages, when i tried safemode the computer was running so slow

At first i didnt think it was coming on at all so i tried /fixboot and /fixmbr in the recovery console... no luck, I then managed to get into safemode and try a system restore... no luck

The problem started when i removed a soundblaster Live! PCI sound card as it was no good

I have also checked the RAM is seated properly

    Any ideas?

The first error is to do with motherboard becoming too hot I believe, and shuts the PC down to stop core problems (melted components). Try booting in safe mode if it does and try reloading SP2.

Also, read over this link: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315335

Do you have all your BIOS Settings at Default?

Thank you both for your replies, Steve, when you say first error do you mean this

it finished copying files restarted the computer and continued with the setup, the thing is, it stops on "Installing windows" and it says 39 minutes remaining
    or the BSOD

and Jephree, I think all the BIOS settings are as they were apart from I disabled PCI.... I am trying another clean install, when it is done i will reset all the BIOS settings.

    Thanks again for your help

also yesturday, i tried a repair install and then got the message "lsass.exe not found" I tried to get in the recovery console and when it asked for password, i clicked enter (as i did last time when i had sp2) but it didnt work!! (i naow have sp1) I tried admin, owner, administrator and then gave up

Thats when i started the clean install again this morning

    EDIT:

Clean install completed again, same problem... i removed the battery for a minute or two and put it back in... some audo IDE configuration came up then said time of day not set press F1 to continue or F2 for setup so i pressed F1

any ideas on the 39 minute remaining problem?

    EDIT 2:

WORKING!!! ive got onto the language selection screen... should be ok from here

Thank you both for your replies

There are common XP install errors at 39 minutes and 34 minutes.

My experience with such errors were installing on an over-clocked system.

If over-clocking do it after you install the operating system.

quite a few seem to be with SP1....

everything is fine now and i have even modded a sound drive thing (not a big mod) which i didnt use to a fan speed controller and to turn my lights on and off... the volume control now controls the speed of the fans and a latching push switch turns the blue light on and off....
