i recently formated my hard drive using DBAN (boot 'n nuke). When i started up my computer, i got this weird BIOS message:

Ultra100TX2 BIOS Is Not Installed Because There Are No Drives Attatched

Then i installed Gamer XP 4 and the message still displays on boot.

Did DBAN wipe my BIOS too?

Are you saying that you installed XP and you get that error anyway?

Sorry for the confusion.

That error indicates the BIOS does not detect any hard drive.

One possibility is to enter the BIOS Setup and set it to Default settings.

If the drive in question is SATA you will need to load the SATA drivers while installing XP.

yeah, i installed a special version of win XP, but it uses alot less ram than normal XP. It's ideal for use with a gaming computer. Anyway, i'll try to restore default settings.

ok, i tried to restore default settings in setup, but the problem still occurs.

i'm sorry, but could you explain what SATA is? if it involves reformatting my hdd, i might not do it, because everything works fine otherwise...

SATA is the latest hard drive connection type. It replaces IDE or ATA (those wide ribbon connectors). It requires motherboard drivers when installing XP on a SATA drive.

Anyway it is irrelevant if you are using XP on a working drive at this point.

When do you see that error? Do you press F1 to bypass it or what do you do?

If you have to press F1 go back into the BIOS Setup and look for an error setting perhaps in General or under Boot.

There should be an option such as Stop on Error > Press F1

If you find such a setting disable it.

If all is working well this could be a benign error that your BIOS is tripping on.

i get the dell bootscreen and then it goes right to that error message.

i'll look for a "stop on error" option

Being a Dell could have something to do with it as the BIOS might be looking for a specific boot sector file that you Nuked.

yeah it just goes away after it says there are no drives attatched. then it goes to the xp bootscreen.

I would forget about it.

Dell probably had a file on the original hard drive that was expected to return a signal and now it is no longer there. The BIOS is still expecting feedback and is not getting it.

It would appear that this is just something you will have to live with having removed the Dell version of XP.
