    where's my recycle bin gone?

hi everyone, can you help me find the contents of my recycle bin. i've recently had the message 'recycle bin corrupted' but have not really known what was wrong. now when i go to look at the files in my bin i can see any thing. it knows there's something in there because if i say empty recycle bin it tells me how many files are in there. any help you can give would be most appreciated.
    thanks

on the right side of line 64 in the link below is a registry edit to restore the bin to original settings, tho you may loose its' current contents:

    restore recycle bin

also i found this if you want to view & possibly save contents:

The problem can be caused when you have installed Norton or some other
third-party programs that may make some changes to your recycle bin.

I would like to suggest you perform the following steps to create a new
    recycle bin:

    1. Open Control Panel.

    2. Click Tools-> Folder Options -> View tab.

    3. Check ˇ°Show hidden files and foldersˇ± and also uncheck ˇ°the hide
    protected system filesˇ± box.

    4. Click Apply-> OK-> Restart the computer in Safe mode.

    5. Open each drive; open the ˇ°Recyclerˇ± folder and then we should see
    the deleted files.

    6. Backup those files you need.

    7. Delete the ˇ°Recyclerˇ± folder on each drive.

    8. Restart the computer. Now a new Recycle Bin is created.

Please check if the problem can be resolved at this time. If not, please
try a Clean Boot to see if it is caused by the third party programs.

thanks jephree i try that. these things are so frustrating. like now i'm experiencing a very slow pc. with everything seemingly taking ages to load. i've recently got in with the winmx crowd and i'm like a kid in a candy store. i'm guessing it must be something i've downloaded that is slowing everything up. like spy bot or ad aware or some blinkin thing. but i dont know what? i even tried those bit torrents but my pc froze yesterday and i lost what i was d/loading. you see i dont know enough about these things to be altering settings and stuff. i know i know you get what you deserve. i've even tried restoring my pc to five days previous to clear out what might be the cause but its still on the slow side. by the wy i'm running win xp 80 gb 512 mb 2000+ athlon processor. so that should be amble fire power. i'm going to try pc pitstop and see if that brings anything up. thanks for your time

Both Ad Aware & Spy Bot S&D are GOOD programs that search & destroy spyware. I suggest you download & run often. Links below, plus HijackThis.
Follow instructions there to create a log & post it in the Spyware, Adware and Viruses section & someone will review it. Good Luck!

reply for jephree who's been very kind in replying. i d/loaded and used CW shredder and that done its job. so then i used spy bot to discover what still ails my system and it has come back with this list. BlazeFind Bridge All-in-One Telcom Fun Web Products Comload SexList Hotbar and HuntBar. i pressed fix problem in spybot and although it shows the list it doesn't move them to the next screen for me to purge them. i have left spybot open for a long time hoping it would move the selected files into the recovery box so that i could say 'fix the problem' but so far they continue to look at me 'mocking me' in the 'check for problems' box. i'm now contemplating using hi jack this but to say i was a complete novice to all this is definately an underststement. although i read something about active x. what settings i should use would be very helpful old bean. and i am i right in reading that you have to untick all the start up files in msconfig start up menu to put them on before posting. should i then quickly re tick them all after i've done that. i'm not sure about all this. takes me all my time to open a can of beans.

    Help

In Spy Bot you need to click/check the individual boxes. As soon as you click one the Fix Problem icon should light up. Otherwise something is wrong. Try uninstalling Spy Bot then re-install from scratch.

You don't need to do anything to msconfig for what we are talking about.

Go to the HighjackThis link and download ... save in your documents (create a folder for it if you want) ... then click on the icon and the HijackThis window will appear ... click on scan & then save log ... a new window will pop-up with the text of log ... copy all & paste/post here

    good luck
