    Exclamation Windows XP wont boot

I have have friend whoose winxp pc wont boot. When he turns it ok, he sees the "your computer was not shutdown right...... and all the differnt starting option come up: safe mode, normally, last know config that worked ect. However when this comes up the start normally choice is highlighted, but pressing enter over it does nothing, and there is no way to move to a different option. I'm going to try and help him out and im wondering if anyone has any ideas about how to do this. First ill probably try F8 and go into safe mode, but if it freezes at the screen like he says then that might now work. I was wondering if i can dl a image and make some kind of winxp boot cd? He might has his computer's recovery cd, but im not sure, so im wondering if there is some kind of image i can put on a cd or floppy to help boot him computer.

Trying safe mode sounds good. Just dont click on start normally. Go straight to "Last good configuration"; if that freezes; boot safe again and choose to open windows in safe mode then try system restore when the option comes up.

If this doesnt work you will need to find a CD that is the same "type" as installed:
i.e. Pro Upgrade, Pro Full, Home etc., OEM (brand) etc.

He will also need to know his product key #.

If this is a new machine, under waranty, it might be best to contact the manufacturer.

    Good luck!

my computer is doing the same thing 11/01/04 . I was playing a net game and the system out of the blue rebooted... now it goes to the the 3 option screen for safe modes and 2 options for last known good configuration and start windows normally. no options work.. system keeps rebooting and when i try to do a fresh install ( i have sata ) if my sata drivers load successfully i get a irq error during the install . windows is doing away with boot disks which in this case scares the hell out of me.. boot disks are essential if you cant boot from cd.. my cd install fails everytime ... I was thinking my mbr is corrupted or something but its like pulling teeth trying to get a boot disk to fix this problem.. I am going to buy a new sata drive to see if that works. its sad when safe mode wont even work..I've even removed my sound card and video card but nothing works.. i have also removed my cmos battery and that didnt work, something corrupted my sata drive or something.. perplexed C
    -this isnt an ordinary problem

clowrey247, please read the D-A-L forum rules before posting. Thanks

Please do not Hijack other members posts. For example, if you are browsing the forum and see a member has posted a question with a problem very similar to your own, PLEASE DO NOT post in the same thread and say "I have this problem also! please help!"
Instead simply click the new thread button and ask your question in your own thread. There are a ton of reasons for this but the main one being that although your problem sounds the same, it will most likely require a different solution.
