Windows xp not starting.
Have just installed lots of updates from Windows on a used computer that I recently bought. Now I cannot get into Windows. I put in our password and get the screen with the Windows logo on, but then it just stops and starts all over again. I suppose I need to restore it to where it was before the updates but I can't get in.
It also gives me the choice of two versions of xp on the screen at startup, and I have always chosen Professional as the home version does not work. I think the guy who had it before has installed another version as well as the original. Also, the screen now shows Windows and not Professional that it had before the updates.
If necessary, I have a full copy of xp that I purchased for a computer that has now been scrapped, so I could use that if needs be.
Any advice welcome. Iv'e run out of ideas!!!!!!

I personally would reformat, and do a clean instal. at least that way you know whats going on.
all the best.

Reloading Clean would probably be the best for the long run.
You might be able to Restore the present setup prior to the updates by booting into Safe Mode: press the F8 key repeatedly after the BIOS POST or computer Logo screen but prior to Windows.
Here select Safe Mode then System Restore and choose a point prior to the updates.
