icwip.dun missing or corrupted
I have bought a used pc running windows xp pro.
I have tried to run an internet connection disc, but get the message.. icwip.dun missing or corrupted.
Does anyone know how I may remedy this situation?
Any help or advice would be greatly apreciated.
Thanks.

Hi, Welcome to D-A-L
What disc is it? Is it a new or old disc as it sounds like it could possibly be either a faulty disc or a disc which is not supported by Windows XP.

Hi there
It's just a wannadoo disc to set up my internet account on another pc
I read somewhere about needing to ensure that rasphone.exe is in windows system 32\RAS\
Do you know what that is about?
and is it relevant to this situation?
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks

From your Start Menu you can Search for rasphone.exe
as well as icwip.dun which is in C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\Connection Wizard ... see if they're there ... check properties ... etc.
Not sure if you can import icwip.dun if it's not there or corrupt... do you have the XP disk?
If you know someone locally that has XP you could have them copy icwip.dun to a floppy, then you could try to load it off that.
Can you set up a connection using the Connection Wizard without the other disk?
Also after I did a re-install of XP I had to edit the registry in order to connect to the internet, by following this path & deleting these two values:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\RasMan \PPP\EAP\
25 & 26
(This is a pre-SP1 conflict resolution)
Good Luck

OK
I have looked for rasphone.pbk and rasphone.exe, neither are on the pc.
I have copied them from another pc but rasphone.pbk has the details of the connection of the pc I copied it from.
I have also tried to use system restore to take the "new" pc back so I can see if I can find a time when these items were on the pc,
but it won't restore at all.
The person I bought the pc from says he no longer has the xp disc which he used to install the operating system.
Any ideas where I go from here??
Please??

Did you find icwip.dun?
Did you try the Connection Wizard?
Start > Connect To > Show all connections > Create a new connection
Try it to at least see what error comes up.
Rasphone will change when you add new connections.
What happens when you try System Restore? Error Message? ???
Being a used computer who knows what the previous settings were set to?
Was it on a network? etc.?
If your XP is not registered that might be a problem.

Yes tried connection wizard
get error 624 message
icwip.dun is there.
System restore proceeds as if it is restoring,
then after restarting, it tells me that no changes were made to my computer.
Elsewhere on the pc, everyhing is registered to the previous owner.
Apparently the pc was previously using an external broadband card??? I have absolutely NO idea what that is,
having always been a dial up girl myself!
I have also telphoned isp, who have taken me step bt step through the connection wizard,
when we get to error 624, they are stumped too! !
Any more ideas?
Please?

Do you have many choices in system restore or only one?
Have you tried them all?
I still think the previous set-up might be causing problems;
Can the previous owner offer any help? You really should have been given the XP disk as they are proprietary to individual computers.
Anyway, the following I found regarding Error 624:
(sorry i cant think of anything else at the moment.)
(You might try posting your problem to a microsoft newsgroup found in the Help and Support area found on the Start Menu.)
SYMPTOMS
When you create a dial-up connection, the wizard may not work, and you may receive the following error message:
Phone book can not be created. Error 624
Also, you may not be able to delete or modify dial-up connections.
CAUSE
This issue may occur if Windows cannot write information to a phone book file (.pbk) because the file is damaged or it has a read-only file attribute.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, first locate the Rasphone.pbk file and make sure that the read-only file property in the Properties dialog box is not selected. If it is not selected, the file may be damaged and you must rename the Pbk folder to Pbk.old. The Pbk folder is located in the "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Network\Connections" folder.
If you cannot see the Pbk folder, make sure that you can see hidden files and folders. To do so, follow these steps:
Click Start , click My Computer, and then click Folder Options on theTools menu.
Click the View tab.
Click Show hidden files and folders, and then click OK.
