problem with hard disk space 25 gigabite temp file
Hi im new but have a major problem I do not use much in the way of hard disk space only having a few movies and music files plus windows and other components, only one game, that I believe only amount to about 15 gigabytes at most. However my computer informed me that i was running low on hard disk space somehow yesterday. I since have located the temporary files on my computer and came across a file called:
WKS11.tmp in the
c:\ documents and settings\danny\ local settings\temp files
It says that it is a tmp file of 25.07 gigabytes, created on the 13/03/07, but modified on the 14/03/07 (today).
I have looked around and they say that most temp files are just 1 or 2 kb how is mine 25 gb, is this abnormal its eating up all my 40 gb storage and severly slowing my computer down, I don't know whether to delete it. As people say that it is ok to delete temporary files, but it also not to delete files that have the current date on them as they may be in use by the computer. Will deleting this file destroy my computer, render it useless and any saved points my computer has created, that I can reboot safely from.
Any help will be most appreciated as i don't know whether to delete or not.

Temp folders (or tmp) are just that, a temporary holding spot for operations. There should be no problems with deleting anything in your temp folder. But as with all deletes look through the folders/files to see if there is anything you want to keep.
You can also sort by Date Modified and only delete items older than x Days.
If there is anything in that folder in use then the OS will give you an error message saying that access was denied.
Hope that helps
