first, this probably wont help, but just defrag your computer first then post back

I was going to try putting my wifes hard drive in my pc for limited time and see if its my hard drive as im not 100% but think its more than likely a hardware prob as the fact all scans im done come back clean

I would agree on the hardware and first suspect your power supply unit.
You can get a tester for this at most any electronics store.
You can also get a hard drive diagnostic from the manufacturer's web site.
You can also test the RAM with MemTest
Is this an old computer? Have you ever cleaned it inside?

The Pc isnt really old but its not brand new either
2800 AMD
1 Gig Ram (Over two cards)
and 4 harddrives sadly i dont know how old they are
some one told me that one of the problems im got could be floppy drive dying as when i had the real bad crashing the floppy drive light was on and they said it could be that told me to turn if off in boot up and see if that happens could this be the case?

It is worth a try to eliminate it as a possibility. The light should flash on boot up but not stay on. You can disable it in the BIOS or just disconnect it.
I would run the diagnostic on your hard drive. If you don't know the manufacturer look in the BIOS Setup as well or in the Device Manager.
The manufacturer's web site will have a diagnostic tool to download.
Again a failing PSU (power supply unit) can trigger all sorts of weirdness such as you describe.

yeah with the light ifs off but when it was crashing before the floppy died while the monitor and mouse went the harddrive light was on (not flashing but on solid) and also was the floppy light know so was thinking that maybe the floppy was on its way out and started to cause these problems? but thanks ill try with them and post back as soon as i can
