    PC problems

    Hi

I've got some serious PC problems(LOL)that i have now since about 6 months.
It all started, with a certain event. I've bought me some more RAM(512 more for my system that has 1024 already in)and i also exchanged my AMD 2000 XP with a AMD 3200 XP.
Bevore i got these 2 things, i got me a new Motherboard starting last year(2006), one which can support up to a AMD 3200 XP on it, and has 3 slots for RAM(my old mobo had only 2 slots fro RAM, also had only AGP 4x support and a AMD 2000 XP was the max CPU possible on it), plus i got a few weeks later a new GFX card, a ATI Raedon Sapphire X1600 pro(which was one reason i got the new mobo, since its a AGP 8x card).

That was when my problems started. First my Power Supply died after 4 years of service(was a 350w one), and i had to get a new one, a 550w one. Shortly after i build in the CPU, my PC had strange shut downs, just like if u push the reset button, the screen went black and then the bios started to restart the PC. I had this problem until recently, then i remade the Thermal Compound(again, after i already did it 2 times since last november, when the problems started), but this time i first used some Isoprophyl liquid to clean the CPU and Cooler(seems like the 3200 produces somewhat more heat then the 2000, which makes it more picky about the thermal compound)and i also used a high performance termal compound too.

Now i hope that this "reset" bug is gone due to a now 42° hot CPU(compared to 72° bevore). I belive that these resets where a result of a instable running system, since they where completely random and thus not reproducable.
But my main problem is now, that i keep get BOSDs. Once its HIDclass.sys, then its Tcpip.sys and today it was psched.sys.

The reason i write here is, i absolutely dont have a clue where to start to find out why i have these. Is it a hardware issue, or is it a driver? On one site i read its possible that the program mentioned in the BOSD isnt the "bad guy", on another site i read that IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL's which i get are mostly hardware errors.
Soo i wanna be SURE that its some driver issue, bevore i redo my system, since i got a bigger and more shiny new HD and i want to use the "new guy" as my main HD. If its a hardware issue, then i could go on the lookout for a new mobo, but as long as i stand in the dark i not know where to start to solve that issue of mine.

    sincerely

    Hi jephree

With post some logs u mean just logs from the Event Viewer? Since i still have some minidumps flying around(most certainly one of the recent BOSD too).
Like i said, i want to be SURE thats a hardware issue(or driver one)bevore i start to redo my Windows Installation.
And one more thing, i am sorry but i cannt do the logs right now, its night here ^^, i sit down tomorrow and go through all the Event Viewers logs and minidumps, and then post the results ok?
    Sincerely

OK. The dump logs are the most informative.

OK, i've looked throught the Event Viewer.

Under Application i only found a bunch warnings, and some errors. Mostly from the EventSystem, with the following Description:

The COM+ Event System detected an inconsistency in its internal state. The assertion "GetLastError() == 122L" failed at line 201 of d:\nt\com\com1x\src\events\shared\sectools.cpp. Please contact Microsoft Product Support Services to report this error.

Under System i found quite some Errors, mostly ones with these descriptions:

    Source: Service Control Manager
The Computer Browser service terminated with the following error:
This operation returned because the timeout period expired.

    Source: Service Control Manager
The CXTUNE service failed to start due to the following error:
The system cannot find the file specified.

    Source: Service Control Manager
Timeout (30000 milliseconds) waiting for a transaction response from the SharedAccess service.

    Source: Service Control Manager
The Computer Browser service failed to start due to the following error:
The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.

    DCOM
DCOM got error "The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it. " attempting to start the service wuauserv with arguments "" in order to run the server:
    {E9376CC6-121A-447E-81CF-D8BCC200007C}

    DCOM
DCOM got error "This service cannot be started in Safe Mode " attempting to start the service EventSystem with arguments "" in order to run the server:

Otherwise i didnt find anything else.
    Sincerely

Ok, here is the post of the minidump. Dont get irritated that its from 2003 ... i resetted my Bios recently, and thus the clock in it. Then afterwards i forgot to set the correct time in the Bios and the windows overtook the Bios's time Anyway, here is the supposed last minidump, it was caused by psched.sys if i trust the BOSD:

    KERNEL_MODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED_M (1000008e)
This is a very common bugcheck. Usually the exception address pinpoints
the driver/function that caused the problem. Always note this address
as well as the link date of the driver/image that contains this address.
Some common problems are exception code 0x80000003. This means a hard
coded breakpoint or assertion was hit, but this system was booted
/NODEBUG. This is not supposed to happen as developers should never have
hardcoded breakpoints in retail code, but ...
If this happens, make sure a debugger gets connected, and the
system is booted /DEBUG. This will let us see why this breakpoint is
    happening.

    HIDclass.sys = USB driver

    Tcpip.sys and psched.sys = Network drivers

If you can post all these logs and any future ones it is often telling in their comparison.

I did know that tcpip.sys has something to do with the networkcard, also i did know(its more that i suspeced)that hidclass.sys works with the USB plugs in the PC. But i didnt know what psched.sys is there for, thanks to teach me something new ^^.

Just bevore i got another BSOD, so here is the log:

This will let us see why this breakpoint is
    happening.
    Arguments:
Arg1: c000001d, The exception code that was not handled
Arg2: a36d0502, The address that the exception occurred at
    Arg3: f78a2de8, Trap Frame

Wow. That is going hardcore to the hardware. Memory of some nature.

Although the RAM is the main memory there is also memory in both the CPU and GPU.

The easiest to test first is the RAM.

    MemTest

Please ask if you have questions regarding creating the boot disk. The page can be a bit much for some at first glance.

You will note the previous faults were still in the stack:

So means its definetely RAM, Hardware. This memtest will check all RAM for me? Will it check CPU, normal RAM and GPU RAM?
I downloaded the ISO of it, and burned it too, since i not have a floppy in this PC I have one somewhere, but ... i not have any floppy disks left that could do the job.
Lets see if that CD burned correctly, since there is no visible file on it(thats what the site said). Also i will do the test tomorow, since i not have time for that today. I just hope that its one of the 3 512 RAMs, since to kick one out is kinda easy compared to if its RAM of the CPU or even worse the Graphic Card = =

    Sincerely
