I have a problem with sound that im not sure wether it is software or hardware problem. I used my computer around 3:00 and the speakers and everything were fine. i come back at 9:00 and I have no sound through speakers. I tested the speakers to see if they were working. They were, but just in case I tried my headphones. No sound. I checked every setting in windows and restored it to the previous day. I notice that my speakers and headphones produce the electroinc noise produced when my disk drive speeds up (its always done this and worked just fine) so it makes me think that the jack still works. Just out of curiosity i plugged in my usb headset / microphone and low and behold i have sound when windows switches the settings to usb headset. I can tolerate using my headset or getting USB speakers but I'd rather not if i dont have to. I heard this was a good site for help so this is my first post. Please someone help me. PS i download music and i hope this isn't a virus or something i picked up (in case it is can anyone tell me a good free antivirus program i can get)

As to you sound issue look in your Device Manager for any yellow ! or ?

right click My Computer then click Manage then Device Manager
