    Go To > control panel > click add & remove programs
    click windows media player.

    Click set program access & defaults > click custom
    check box windows media player > check enable access
    and click ok

    The avi player is probably in your startup.

    Do you want to remove this program from your computer?

    Start>Run box type: msconfig

    Click Startup tab and delete the program

    Windows will shut down and reboot, see if that gets rid of it.

    Hi griff

    Ok, so does this happen with every program you try to open, I don't know what you can do and not do with windows, do you have a desktop or just the avi movie player on the screen, are you saying it doesn't matter what you click the avi player appears on the screen.

    I went to the HyPlay website, is that where you downloaded the player from, you know this software is beta and the author is still working out the bugs in the player. Their was no place on the site that had instructions for uninstalling this program and I spent 45 minutes and their was nothing about uninstalling this program. When I download a free\share ware program(very seldom) I check to this if it comes with a uninstaller or I don't download it and the features in this one don't have one.

    Which version of HyPlay Avi Move Player(if this is the one you downloaded) you don't say, the newest version: 1.2.0326.0. When I checked the f.a.q. here is what the author said "First of all, Hyplay is a FREE BETA. You have to know that Beta means I do my best to make it robust, but there are bugs left. The author swears that their is no spyware or adware in this program(I don't know I don't have access to his code) I don't trust free/share ware programs, although their are some good ones Avg, Ad-Aware, Spybot, just to name a few, but you will notice the good ones come with a uninstaller.

    According to the website their have been 1,237,678 downloads for the HyPlay Avi Movie Player.

    If you go to Start > Run box type: regedit can you do this? or does the avi player popup when you press Ok, if you can't do anything on your machine it seems like you have a real nasty piece of spyware or a virus, did you post a hijack log, so the experts could take a look at and advise you on what to do and how to get rid of what you've got.

    Hi griff;

    Sounds like you might of picked up something nasty.

    Check to see if you have rundll32.exe file in C:\WINDOWS\system32 the file should be 32.5KB
    When you open explorer > Tools > Folder options > view > make sure the box is checked to show hidden files and folders.

    If it is not in system32 folder, You may have a virus or Rundll32.exe is damaged or missing.

    Put your Xp disk in your CD-ROM

    Go To Run box type: cmd

    When the DOS screen opens at the flashing cursor type this command.

    expand <CD-ROM:>\i386\rundll32.ex_ %Systemroot%\rundll32.exe hit enter

    where the <CD-ROM:> is your CD-ROM drive letter, if your CD-ROM drive is D put a D, if it's E, put a E, or whatever letter the drive is.
    you don't put or use these <> or what drive is called "CD-ROM

    Shut down and restart Windows

    Hi griff;

    Sounds like you got something nasty on your system, have you tried running any online scans.

    http://www.bitdefender.com/scan8/ie.html

    http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

    http://www3.ca.com/securityadvisor/virusinfo/scan.aspx

    http://www.pandasoftware.com/

    When you run whichever ones you want, I would post the results in the spyware forum and they could advise you on what to do.

    RUNDLL32 on my system (size 32.5KB)(33,280 bytes)(size on disk 64.0KB)
    (65,536 bytes)

    I'm not an expert on this like the moderators in the spyware forum, but that's probably whats stopping you from running these applications.

    Run the scans, see what they show.
