ok, how about some more information please?

what type of camcorder do you have? Is it one of those put-in-the-dvd rather than a tape? what hapens when you put the dvd in your computer. If it is an .avi file, open in your favorite video player or editor. If it has dvd video files on it, use a dvd riping program.

    i hope that helps.

In most cases you need an IEEE 1394 (Firewire) connection and cable to play directly from the Camcorder.

If you are asking to play DVDs from your computer then you just need DVD playing software as XP does not have this capability.

jephree, you are so living in the 90's. nobody calls firewire IEEE anymore! besides, Win XP can play DVDs, if you have a DVD ROM drive. I've gotten DVDs to play in WMP and REAL player, so i don't know what you are talking about.

LiEBO, XP's Device Manager refers to these devices as IEEE 1394 and responding in an XP Forum so do I.

XP in itself cannot play DVDs unless it is an OEM version bundled with added Decoders or has additional software bundled with the DVD drive. In order to determine this here is a good little guide:
