Help with Windows xp :(
My brother recently installed Windows xp Home Edition version 2002 since my computers old boot system had corrupted and wouldnt start. Since then there was 2 hard disks shown on the "my computer" menu (hard disks c and h) "c" is 6gb and "h" is 164gb and ever since i cant dl big files to my computer since it will say "running out of memory" on the "c" drive ofcourse but there is no use of the "h" drive so i was wondering is there anything i can do to make it back into 1 drive i know this might be a dumb question and im sorry i know nothing of computers... any help apprteciated, thanks

You can try to direct the download to the "H" drive when you make the Save selection.
Otherwise you need to reinstall XP and put it on the entire drive. Do not partition.
Also: If the "H" drive has not been initialized go to Disk Management:
Right click My Computer then click Manage then Disk Management
On the lower graphic area right click the right side on the "H" bar and choose Format... and choose NTFS.
But reinstalling now will save a lot of future issues as 6GB is too small to run XP SP2 smoothly.

ok i did everything u told me to. first i try to initialize (format) the drive and it showed it as NTFS already so im assuming it has already been done. then i tried to re-install and a window opened quote, "windows xp setup does not support upgrading from Microsoft Windows XP Professional to Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition. then after i pressed "ok" it asked what type of installation i would like to perform and the only option was "new installation (advanced)" and the description said "choose this option to replace Windows on a separate disk or partition" which i think is what my dumb brother did and thats why we have two disks "c" and "h". so i think im suppose to upgrade but only to a newer version of windows which is ? and when i do will there still be 2 drives ?

Look at this link:

As you scroll down you will see the windows and steps that the Setup should offer.
Click thumbnails for larger pictures.
In 10b there is the choice to delete existing partitions and previous XP's.
Are you trying to install XP Home on this computer that previously had XP Pro? If so why? Why not reinstall Pro?
-
yes im trying to install xp home on the computer which recently had xp pro because there was something wrong with the boot system on the xp pro.... i would reinstall pro but i dont have it...

Just choose a Clean Install And follow the prompts as shown in that link.
If that drive is 160GB then I would create a 60GB partition for XP and leave the remainder for backups and other uses.
This is just my opinion. Everyone will have a different idea and rationale as to partitioning.
An Upgrade or Repair is not possible as you are "reverting" to Home. So the full "Clean" install is what you want.
Let us know if we can clarify further.
