    question

I am looking for a goog free registery cleaner program. I know there all a lot that do a free scan, but then after that they want money to clean things up. I am using one now, but it does not seem it is working. It looks like it keeps cleaning the same stuff every time I run it. Can anybody recommend one? Tankee U

    CCleaner has one:

    http://www.ccleaner.com/

    RegSeeker looks a little deeper:

    http://www.hoverdesk.net/freeware.htm

The commercial versions search deeper. You can still get an old free version of JV16 here:

    http://www.oldversion.com/program.php?n=jv16

This is one of the deepest diggers. They now charge for the current versions.

Many entries are created as you work on the computer so it is not uncommon for the redundant entries to be constantly re-created.

Also for backup and optimization ERUNT/NTREGOPT is great:

I use RegSeeker and RegScrub, both free excellent programs.

I've used them for years and never had a problem, but you have to remember, deleting an entry in one of these programs is like opening the Windows registry and doing it, thats why their is no icon to click on which opens the registry, to open the registry you would have to type in a command.

Although, their is nothing like manually editing the registry, I have found files
dating back to 2004, it seems Windows is just one big pack rat, keeps everything.

Say you uninstall a program, so you open add & remove programs, then you
go to program files or wherever the program is listed and delete it, you think
well it's gone, but 9 times out of 10, if you look in the registry, that program
is sitting their and it will sit their for years, unless the program came with a
very good uninstaller, which I haven't found many.

WARNING: editing the registry, if you don't know what your doing, when you
go to shut off Windows, it might not startup, you might get the Blue Screen
Of Death, so be careful what you delete, if your not sure leave it alone.

Why do you have to use 2, and why just one of them is not good enough?

    Hi joeofeg;

The reason I use two registry programs, because in RegSeeker their are more options to control my machine and RegScrub just scans the registry and looks for problems in the registry.

In RegSeeker, I can control my installed apps, startup entries, history, favorites, clean the registry and tweak Windows which I can't do in RegScrub.

Why do you use 3 or 4 spyware programs, all programs are different and search for different files, I use Windows Defender but this program does not scan for cookies, but if you use Ad-Aware SE Personal or Spybot Search and Destroy these look for cookies, I would not run two anti-virus programs though, because one would cancell the other out, nor would I run two firewalls on my system.

Registry programs help me keep Windows purring like a kitten, the last thing you want is a clogged up registry, but remember this playing around in the registry is a dangerous thing, if you don't know what your doing.
