    Printer problem

I use a HP psc 750 all in one thingy (with scanner, printer, photocopy)

Well somehow the shortcut to the program in start menu disappeared...and
if i go program files to look for it, and double click...it says
"This application has failed to startup because hpotap07.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem"

Unable to open the program....i am unable to scan.

I cannot uninstall it somehow either, theres no where to click for uninstall
    (even in Add/Remove Programs)
I tried downloading the install thing off www.hp.com
but it wont install caz it says " Install detected that this system has already successfully completed the installation of this software"

Any idea? Hope it isnt confusing.

This is going to sound like a stupid question, but in add & remove programs at the top where it says currently installed programs and updates, their is a box to the right that says show updates, do you have this box checked, if not check it and see if your printer is listed.

Have you checked device manager, start > run > type: devmgmt.msc

Check for any red x's, question mark or exclamation marks, my printer is listed under other devices, clicking the plus sign you should see parallel device, right click that scroll down to properties and this should give you the status of the device, example > Device Status > The drivers for this device are not installed. (code 28) To reinstall the drivers for the device. Click reinstall driver.

    Good luck

    Uninstall Programs Manually

Just because Windows XP has the Add/Remove Programs feature it doesn't mean your application will appear in the list. Furthermore, even if it does appear, it's no guarantee that the uninstall feature will work. When you run across one of these situations the items listed below will help in getting rid of the application. Be aware that these steps may not remove everything associated with the application and can impact other applications on the computer. Have a backup or restore point and use caution.

    *

Find the directory for the application and delete all the files in the directory. Delete the directory. e.g. click C: under My Computer then Program Files etc.
    *

Open regedit (start/run regedit) and navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE and find the folder for the application. Delete the folder.
    *

Open regedit and navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE and find the folder for the application. Delete the folder.
    *

To remove the application entry from Add/Remove Programs (if present) open regedit and navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Uninstall and find the folder for the application. Delete the folder.
    *

Some applications have Services attached to them. If this is the case, navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es, locate and delete the service.
    *

In Windows Explorer, navigate to the individual user settings and delete program references. Common places to check would be:

    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs and delete relevant entries.
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup and delete relevant entries.
C:\Documents and Settings\%YourUserID%\Start Menu\Programs and delete relevant entries.
[Do this for each User ID listed]
C:\Documents and Settings\%YourUserID%\Start Menu\Programs\Startup and delete relevant entries.
[Do this for each User ID listed]

If no entries were found in the previous step and the application launches automatically, navigate to
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows
    and delete the entry.

    Hi abcde123112;

Did you get the hp software uninstalled, you probably have to uninstall the driver before you can uninstall the software.

I noticed that hp psc 750 printer is discontinued.

jephree, gives some excellent advice for uninstalling programs manually.

Did you run the trouble shooter when you were in device manager and what did it say?

Try this to, go to your run box type: dxdiag when you see the blue blocks at the bottom of the screen disappear click on the input tab and scroll down to input related devices, see if any problems are listed. If you click the tab more help you can then use the trouble shooter when it open click I'm having trouble with a usb device, then you can try the tab msinfo that will open system information click on components and scroll down to problem devices, see if your printer is named, you can also click software, look around see if their are any problems.

A driver is a program that controls a device, a driver acts like a translator between the device and programs that use the device and each device has its own set of specialized commands that only its driver knows.
