Just to clarify: The message says WINDOWS MESSENGER? When you say it has been re installed & is working, are you refering to MSN MESSENGER? (You downloaded?)

Or WINDOWS MESSENGER 4.5 (built-in to xp.)

Does the error box say on top MESSENGING SERVICE?

    Hello Jephree.
    thanks for your help.
the box says on the top next to the red X "INSTALLATION ALTERED"
    and it reads MSN MESSENGER.

Did you intentionally install the program "Messenger PLUS"?

This is a third party "add-on" to MSN Messenger. (just btw: some spyware issues have been noted with this program)

I would suggest deleting Messenger PLUS just to see if this resolves your issue.
