Printer Virus? Please help...
Okay, so my mother tells me she has a problem with her printer at her office... The printer keeps saying it is out of paper when it isn't... She puts it on another computer, and it works... So she buys a NEW printer, hooks it up, etc etc... Says it isn't working, but on all the other PC's in the office it is functioning just fine. So I run a virus scan off trend micro... Only security threats it finds is small grayware located in HTTP cookies, nothing too bad. So i decide to test the printer after closing all non-neccessity active processes... The printer says out of paper (expected of course)... Then I turn off the printer, try to print a page and it says... OUT OF PAPER. It can't know its out of paper if it is turned off... So it leads me to believe there is some tiny virus that i can't for the life of me locate, through manual searching and automated searching. Is there any idea what virus this may be , where i can locate it and how i can remove it? Someone please help.

Is there another tray (or paper feed point) on the bad printer that you can select? If so, select those and see if you still get the same result. Presence of paper needs to be sensed in the printer. If not, it may falsely tell you it is out of paper.

Thought of that, but it's only this computer that has the problem, no matter the printer it says out of paper, and the other computers print just fine on the printers that wont work on this computer. The epson worked on all other PCs, and not this one... So she bought a "Brother" and it works on all the other PCs except this one. And it says out of paper rather the printer is on or off... But if you turn the printer off and try to print it should say an error about the printer not ready or whatever...

Okay, from what I gather you say if you connect this printer to another computer the printer just works fine. But, if you connect the printer to that particular computer it says out of paper. Here is another simple approach (you might have already done this, in that case the discussion itself may shed some light to what is going on)-Uninstall the printer drive and reinstall it.

Also, are you using the same cable and print port on the "bad' computer when you try other printers? If so, use a different cable, and then select a different print port. It it is USB port, select a USB port that is on another card (or if using USB hob, bypass it)

Uninstalled and reinstalled drivers on both printers... tried using old cable, new cables on both... Nothing works.

Two other things come to my mind:
Download and run a good free registry repair program (maybe somebody can recommend one). Also, temporary try a different anti virus program. Other than those, it bits me what is going on.
