    HELP! With Screen freezing!

** It is a gaming problem, but I think it has to do more with the Windows. Therefore I post in here **

Well, I don't know if this has to do with graphic card, but I am trying to play Day of Defeat: Source (Steam Engine)

But the screen often freeze when I am in middle of the game or when it is loading the game.

In-Game: The screen suddenly froze and the current sound keeps repeating.
When loading: The loading won't move forward and I can see that the "Busy light" in my CPU case is not flashing either. (normally it does)

I can assure that it is a screen freeze and not a entire system freeze. Because sometimes luckily, I can press the "Start" button from my keyboard, and I can see that the system is still working because sometimes the start menu pops out or when I press alt -ctrl - delete, I can see that the system is working, it is only that the game screen is covering it.

Also, when I press the Power button in my cpu case, the game/screen returns to normal. (Continue running), BUT it closes soon since I press the power button for hibernation.

It happens to CS: Source before also, but ppl told me to update driver. Now my driver version is the latest one.

I use ATI RADEON X1800 512 mb vid card, 2 Gig RAM, 2.8 ghz Pentium D.

    Thank you!

There are so many things that could be wrong; did you try properly uninstalling the last video drivers and then installing the latest? Does this still happen in other source games like CS? Maybe it's just a corrupt file in the source engine which is commonly used in all source's games.

Yea all the drivers updated are done properly. It does not happend to CS source. But it does happend before to CS, just not recently. How can I fix it? Also, when I stop playing Day of Defeat, and try to play WC3, it says that I don't have directX installed, I have to restart the system to play wc3. So.. is there any problem with the vid card or wut? Thank you

Have you got the very latest version of directx? (sometimes it's released monthly) Maybe something is corrupt somewhere

you could try re-downloading the game from steam, and deleteing the old one... not preferable though
