    Computer always freezes after start-up

    HI,
I hope someone can help. I'm having a nightmare with my PC. Every single time i boot it up it freezes shortly after loading windows. The screen freezes, mouse won't move and keyboard doesn't work so i am forced to turn the power off. Once it is rebooting it hangs at "Verifying DMI Pool Data". I have to restart a few times then it loads normally and i can use it all day without a problem. I've cleared CMOS by removing the battery and i have unplugged my floppy as that seemed to be causing problems. I've had the side panel off my computer for a few days and keep checking the fan - which is working fine. I can't see it being a cooling issue as the fan is working and after this initial set-back the PC performs great all day - i've ended up leaving it running for most of the day to avoid having to reboot and it still doesn't crash again due to overheating...

    I'm running 2gb ram and i think its a 3.6ghz processor on XP sp2.

    Any idea's guys??

    Cheers.

As to your DMI error there is this page:

    Does anything there appear relevant?

    Hi jephree,

Thanks for the link. I have found similar pages giving the same advice and i have tried everything except replacing the hard drive. But i don't want to do this as it seems only to happen when i have to restart after it has crashed.

    Any other idea's?

    Cheers

Mysterious "boot ok/ no boot/ boot ok" issues are often symptoms of a failing PSU (power supply).

You can also run the manufacturer's diagnostic on your hard drive. If you don't know the make look in the Device Manager under Disk Drives.

The manufacturer's web site will have a diagnostic that you can download and run.
