CAN ANYONE HELP, THIS HAPPENED WHEN I OPENED A HOTMAIL MESSAGE, LOADS OF WINDOWS STARTED TO OPEN IN THE SYSTEM TRAY, I TRIED TO SHUT DOWN BUT IT FROZE AND THIS WAS THE RESULT.

seems more like a virus to me. have you checked your Event Viewer?
