no recording tab on cd-rw drive
Hope someone can help me out here.
I've recently had problems with my cd/dvd-rw drive not being recognised by the 'burn' command in Windows Media Player. I also can't back up photos etc to it. If I right click the drive's icon in My Computer, there is no 'Recording' tab showing, which I guess is the problem. It plays back pre recorded cds and dvds, no problems.
Why has this disappeared, and how can I get it back?
The drive is a new one (Pioneer DVR-111D), as I had the same problems with my previous 5 year old Creative cd-rw drive, but at that time, I thought it was the writing capabilities of the drive that had gone kapput, hence the new one. I didn't used to have the problem, but when I went to back up some photos, that's when I noticed the problem. I've tried 3 different makes of blank cd, all refuse to record.
I've always used Media player for recording music, and Windows built in burning software for data and photos. I did have Nero installed, but never used it. Since the problem, I've unistalled Nero. I also then re-installed the Pioneer drive and drivers. No change though.
I'm not too much of a techi, so well-explained replies would be really great!!
System - Windows XP SP2. 1Mhz AMD Athlon cpu. 1000mb RAM.
Many thanks in anticipation.

Hi Jephree
Sorry for the delay - other things to do.
Thanks for that link. I was nervous to start with, because it meant going into the registry, but the procedure was so well written it wasn't a problem at all. There is now a recording tab on the drive's properties, and I've selected 'Enable CD recording on this drive'. However, I still can't burn to a cd!
I restarted the computer, but no change.
When I try to burn data, Windows CD Writing Wizard always asks me to put a cd in the drive, when there's already one in it.
When I try to burn music in Media Player, it asks me to connect a burner, and restart the player!
Have I missed something?
